An enthralling memoir of the last surviving English Canadian bishop who participated in Vatican II. Fifty years ago, amidst the excitement and wonder of the early days of Vatican II, a young parish priest, Remi de Roo, is ordained as the Bishop of Victoria. Swiftly called to Rome, the young bishop participates in the enthralling and dramatic proceedings of one of the Catholic Church's most memorable moments in recent history. Inspired by the passionate call to renew and reform God's Church, he dedicates his life and ministry to the Council's vision. A rare memoir of the only surviving Canadian English speaking bishop who participated in Vatican II, this book offers an intimate, insightful perspective on how Remi de Roo has kept the vision of Vatican II alive. De Roo's memoir provides an exceptional first hand perspective of the Council as well as the many joys and challenges implementing its reform of the Church in the years after. Moreover, de Roo invites us to share in his colourful life as he reflects back on the many chapters of his life from the highs to the lows and the excitement of his priestly and episcopal years of service. At a time when many probe the thought and intentions of the Council Fathers, Remi de Roo's words offer a first-hand point of view and an inestimable treasure for years to come.

This interesting memoir held my interest; usually I just flip through a book and dip intothe occasional paragraph. It appears that Bishop de Roo's experience at Vatican 2 transformed him, and since that time he has put his energies into empowering those around him to be mature and conscious members of the Church. I expected lots of references to Vatican 2, but especially liked the references to women's rights and ministries to First Nations people.Product details

Remi De Roo Chronicles of a Vatican II Bishop Remi De Roo 9782896464715 Books Reviews
I had the privileged of hearing him speak at a recent day of reflection and this book just makes his words more relevant.
BISHOPS LIKE REMI DEROO WERE THE GUIDING LIGHTS OF VATICAN 2. THEY WERE MEN OF VISION WHO WERE OPEN TO THE SPIRIT OF THE TIMES. THEY DID NOT FEEL CONSTRAINED BY ARCHAIC RULES AND REGULATIONS BUT LED IN FAITH,HOPE AND TRUST. OH,THAT WE HAD MORE LIKE BISHOP REMI TODAY. HIS IMPACT ON THE CHURCH WILL BE FELT FOR GENERALTIONS.
Tremendously interesting time in the Catholic Church told by a wonderful man who was in the thick of it all. His first had experience is brilliantly told. A great read.
